🍋 Pollo al Limón, TikTok Cravings, and a Spanish–Asian Twist

Some recipes enter our kitchen because they’re part of our family story. Others arrive because a teenager sees something on TikTok and suddenly can’t stop thinking about it. In our case, it was orange chicken.

My daughter asked me to make it—those glossy, sticky bowls online are irresistible. We followed the recipe, and it turned out really good.

But if you live in Spain, you know what truly reigns in Chinese restaurants: Pollo al LimĂłn.

Orange chicken simply isn’t part of the menu here, and Pollo al Limón has always been our go‑to dish whenever we eat out.

So I decided to merge both worlds. I used the structure of the Modern Honey recipe, but instead of orange juice, I swapped in something very local and very convenient: the bottled limonada from Lidl.

🍊 A Quick Summary of the Modern Honey Orange Chicken Recipe

The original recipe is beautifully simple:

  • Make the sauce: Heat orange (lemon) juice, sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and chili flakes together. Thicken it with a cornstarch slurry and finish with fresh orange (lemon) zest.

  • Prepare the chicken: Coat bite‑sized pieces in egg, then in a flour–cornstarch mixture seasoned with salt.

  • Fry: Cook the chicken in hot oil until golden and crisp.

  • Combine: Toss the fried chicken in the sauce and garnish with green onions and more zest.

It’s straightforward, comforting, and easy to adapt—exactly why it worked so well with my limonada twist.

🍋 The Surprise

It worked beautifully.

The limonada gave the sauce a bright, tangy sweetness that tasted just like the Pollo al Limón we always order—maybe even better because it was homemade.

🍚 And With the Leftover Eggs? Arroz Tres Delicias.

After breading the chicken, I was left with a bowl of beaten eggs. In an Asian household, leftover eggs never go to waste—they always become another dish.

So I made Arroz Tres Delicias, the Spanish‑Chinese classic that everyone knows but rarely prepares at home. It’s quick, comforting, and perfect for using what you already have.

🥢 Arroz Tres Delicias

  • Scramble the leftover eggs

  • Add diced ham

  • Add green peas and carrots

  • Mix in cooked rice

  • Season with a pinch of ajinomoto (available in Asian Market)

  • Finish with a splash of rice vinegar for brightness

Simple, satisfying, and exactly the kind of everyday fusion that happens naturally in multicultural kitchens.

đź›’ Asian Market Ingredients Used in This Recipe

If you want to recreate this at home, you’ll find these essentials in Asian Market Guadiaro:

  • Ajinomoto – for clean, balanced umami

  • Tamari – gluten‑free soy sauce with deep flavor

  • Rice Vinegar – brightens sauces, marinades, and fried rice

  • Soy Sauce – your everyday pantry staple

  • Chili Flakes – for heat, aroma, and that signature orange‑chicken kick

These ingredients make it easy to bring Asian flavors into everyday Spanish cooking.

🌏 Why This Story Belongs in Asian Market

Because this is how we cook:

Filipino instincts, Spanish ingredients, Asian flavors, and a little creativity when the craving hits. It’s the blend of cultures that defines our home and our business—practical, warm, and always rooted in family.

Sometimes the best dishes come from improvisation and the desire to make someone you love happy.
